Introduction

As a tutor and a parent to two teenage boys (one in year 12 and the other in year 9) I understand the daunting prospect of what lies ahead for students (and parents alike) when preparing for their GCSE examinations.

GCSEs can be complex and confusing and with so many subjects to prepare for it often leaves parents feeling overwhelmed with little idea of how to really help their child succeed.

Most parents like myself, probably try and help their children as much as they can themselves, not just in terms of learning but also organising, planning, and providing emotional support for a stressed out student.

The reality is that many families simply cannot afford the level of investment required to help their child succeed across the board and as a private tutor I wanted to devise a system that would enable me to provide quality tutoring at a reasonable price to as many students as possible, so I developed Math Plan.

Math Plan is a fully comprehensive GCSE Maths revision system designed for students in year 10 and 11. It combines the use of traditional test papers as well as the best of modern technology to provide your child with the structure and support that they need. With so many GCSE subjects to revise it is advisable to start your maths revision early so that you free up time for other subjects that require more intense study closer to exam time.

So why Mathplan?

I have been working as a tutor for a number of years, mostly giving one to one lessons or hosting a MathClub for primary school children, however it was my personal experience managing my sons GCSE revision that led me to develop a way of tutoring that could benefit more students than I could normally handle teaching on a one to one basis. I noticed that my son needed less help with the overall content as he had covered a large part of the curriculum by year 10 but needed more help structuring his revision and gaining access to the right materials.

So I spent a good amount of time gathering all the past papers that were available as well as revision cards, worksheets and exercise books. I then put together a monthly revision plan which he followed and I subsequently spent most of my time from then on marking papers and creating worksheets for subjects that required additional attention. This is what led me on to thinking that if I could do this easily for my own son then I could adapt it for other students. So after many months of planning and working I developed this website.

One of the key aspects of Mathplan is the complete set of video guides that accompanies each and every question. Critical thinking is essential in these exam style multi-step questions and the guide will examine the thought process and breakdown of each question into it's key concepts. The role of these guides is provide the insight and explanation that I would normally give in a one to one setting. The benefit of these videos is that they are available to view online at any time which provides a really useful and flexible set of tools to support your child. If the guides do not provide sufficient explanation of a particular question then I will be available online to answer any questions. Check out the section on how it works to find out more..

Thanks Daniel.

Daniel assisted our daughter with her GCSE prep. He is a very knowledgable and patient tutor and I wish him all the best with his new venture.
